Description
A meeting between classic and contemporary
In the thousand-year-old heart of the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, among the vestiges of civilizations that have spanned the centuries, are the powerful and contemporary works of Jago, one of the most renowned Italian sculptors on the international scene.
The exhibition "Gesti scolpiti" brings together four emblematic works—Impronta Animale, Memoria, Prigione, and David—with the cultural and archaeological stratification of the site. The first three, sculpted in marble, revolve around the symbolism of the hand: an instrument of contact, memory, and transformation.
Impronta Animale recalls cave paintings and the original contact with the earth.
Memoria reflects on legacy, imprinting the trace of presence in stone.
Prigione expresses the struggle to emerge from the material, in a living and pulsating tension.
These are joined by "David": an iconic and bold work that draws on classical iconography and the tradition of the great masters, where Jago, inspired by Michelangelo's famous David, reinterprets the myth of David and Goliath in a modern key.
"Gesti scolpiti" is a visual and sensorial journey between matter and spirit, between the permanence of marble and the vitality of human gesture. A unique opportunity to experience Jago's art in one of the most evocative places in the Mediterranean.
