IN A "PERFECT" WORLD" DAVIDE DALL’OSSO
CASTELLO MANIACE
FROM THE 4 th OF JUNE TILL 31 st DECEMBER 2022

For Davide Dall'Osso every installation is a dramatic composition that recounts our contemporary schism between the oneiric (dreamlike) and the material that takes place in the space and the emotions of each one of us. The artist comes from theatre: the emotional tension that erupts from each one of his works transforms the space into an existential proscenium. The encounter with the Opera director Rosetta Cucchi two years ago led the artist to collaborate on the scenography of the Opera "Griselda" of Scarlatti, where he talks about gender violence, and this year in Rossini's opera "Otello" with the same director, where it talks about femicide. The opportunity to place in comparison the figures of Griselda and Desdemona laid the roots of this installation. Arethusa represents the trait d’union, that makes possible the conversation about emancipation from gender violence through a sculptural installation.

A wave of female figures represented as ballet dancers burst into the Ipostila hall (room). Dall’Osso chose the cultural representation of the tutù because, in the collective imagination, this dress embodies lightness and determination, the body and the technique, and the art and the narration. Embodiments reinforce in the installation of the wave the idea that was born not from a moment's rush but the strength of a thoughtful life experience.

The sculptures of Dall'Osso are projected in a precise direction and are seeking a reason to exist through their relationship with the light, they give the impression of being in movement, offering a vision of continuing metamorphosis with respect to the space.

The wave is calm but determined, unstoppable, where every drop of blue is the voice of the women born from the words of novels, the dramaturgy and the Opera librettos, and of the writings of poets of women that have suffered violence and femicide.

The choice of the artist to give a voice to the female figurines of literature stems from the need to illustrate a posthumous vision of the violence itself, where the women who have suffered it can recount to each other and to us a possibility of change, of how to stop that evil that has marked the history of each of them. Their liberating, powerful voices break the muffled walls of our lives.

The blue wave of the nymph Aretusa erupts in the Maniace Castle and guides us through the Ipostila hall (Room). A quiet but powerful wave that tells the story of Aretusa, and how she was transformed into a spring by Diana to escape the passion of Alfeo, the son of the ocean, and how he then transfromed into the form of a river, and thus joined her. Her imperishable and inextinguishable movement welcomes other voices of women that are reflected in the fredrick's columns. Dancing, they ask to be heard, strengthened by the unity that words crate. We hear the words of Desdemona, the gentle wife of the Moro of Venice, whose mad jealousy led to the murder of the woman. She tells of Griselda, of the strength with which she resisted the domestic violence carried out by her husband Gualtiero, the Marquis of Saluzzo. Alongside the dance are large faces of women that observe the dance of the wave, with their impalpable transparency, bringing consistency into the narration and listening to the stories of the violence suffered by others. Through their voices comes the reflection and the urgency to achieve gender equality. On the outside, material faces that are strong, statuesque, and blindfolded, that are unable to see and understand fully, so they wait and listen. And suddenly, we realize it's all of us. Urgently, we find ourselves asking those voices of women for the formula for emancipating ourselves from violence.

Davide Dall'Osso never sought confirmation of his being by imposing his thoughts, he never pulled back in the face of situations that jeopardized his certainties but, finding himself in front of the chronicles of gender violence, admits that he realized he took a step to the side. One step to the side so as not to be touched by it, so stunned to not be able to find a way to respond. The artist then wonders what needs to be done to react; for him, the art of hermeneutics becomes the art of knowing how to listen, not passively, but as a dynamic and intellectual activity, which implies the ability to understand what is transmitted with words and with the body. Through ignititng all your senses, making you see each other and lend a hand to help. Removing the covers that block both sight and hearing and uniting the chorus of voices to find new answers; thus begining to face this evil that wounds and bleeds the life of us both as individuals and as a community This is the formula: do not take a step to the side so as not to be affected, but make yourself available and welcoming. Emancipate, therefore, together. The feminine and the masculine bedcome united in a utopian "perfect" world. Equality is the proof of Love and it is of this Love that the artist speaks. The stories of these women are their advice for us; the path they show us to a "perfect" world.

BIOGRAPHY OF DAVIDE DALL'OSSO

SCULPTUR

The artist Davide DallOsso has tried himself with different forms of art, finding his primary form of expression in sculpture that has led him to deal with national and international realties through installations, exhibitions, collaborations, and exhibitions. He graduated as a prose actor at the Paolo Grassi Civic School of Dramatic Art in Milan in 1995; after his studies, he collaborated with the Colombian director Enrique Vargas, where he experimented with sculpture as a means of creative expression. In 1997 he won a scholarship for the "Advanced course for professional actors" held by Luca Ronconi at the Teatro Argentina in Rome. Here as a prose actor he worked with several directors: Piero Maccarinelli, Enrique Vargas, Carlos Martin, Thierry Salmon, Alfredo Arias, Mauro Avogadro and Luca Ronconi. It is precisely in the shows by Piero Maccarinelli and Enrique Vargas, where the directors create chemistry between the different arts on the stage; that Davide Dall'Osso recognized a belonging that will take him in a short time from acting to sculptural art; that will already see him selected in 2002, together with a group of six sculptors from the Marches with the work “Elogio alla fuga” which will be exhibited in Piazza Olivieri in Pesaro. In 2014, together with his wife Maria Vittoria Gozio, co-founder and Creative Director, he opened the Atelier Dall’Osso Snc.
